- Wait one damn minute. We came here because this hospital is supposed to be the best in washington. That's my kid in there -- my kid -- and you have the audacity to stand here and tell me, "I don't know." Mr. Bryce -- No, I want someone else, a doctor who knows what they're doing. The labs are clean, the scans are pure, but she's having seizures -- grand mal seizures with no visible cause. She's a ticking clock. She's gonna die if I don't make a diagnosis, which is where you come in. I can't do it alone. I need your extra minds, extra eyes. I need you to play detective. I need you to find out why katie is having seizures. I know you're tired. You're busy. You got more work than you can possibly handle. I understand, so I'm gonna give you an incentive. Whoever finds the answer rides with me. Katie needs surgery. You get to do what no interns get to do -- scrub in to assist on an advanced procedure. Dr. Bailey's gonna hand you Katie's chart. The clock is ticking fast, people. If we're gonna save katie's life, we have to do it soon. Look, give the antibiotics time to work. The antibiotics should have worked by now. She's old. She's freaking ancient. She's lucky she's still breathing. I got a shot to scrub in downstairs on a patient that wasn't alive during the civil war. Don't page me again. Hey, I want in on shepherd's surgery. You've been the intern on Katie since the start. You want to work together? If we find the answer, we have a 50-50 chance of scrubbing in. I'll work with you, but I don't want in on the surgery. You can have it. You're kidding? It's the biggest opportunity any intern will ever get. One in a million -- literally. Let's go. Where? To find out if Katie's one in a million. I'll be damned. There it is. It's minute, but it's there. It's a subarachnoid hemorrhage. She's bleeding into her brain. She could have gone through her entire life without it ever being a problem. - One tap in the right spot...

Apparently, being a bald beauty queen is the worst thing that happened in the history of the world. Did you choose me for the surgery because I slept with you? Yes. I'm kidding. I'm not gonna scrub in for surgery. You should ask Cristina. She really wants it. You're Katie's doctor. And on your first day, with very little training, you helped save her life. You earned the right to follow her case through to the finish. You shouldn't let the fact that we had sex get in the way of you taking your shot. I wish I wanted to be a chef or a ski instructor or a kindergarten teacher. You know, I would have been a really good postal worker. I'm dependable. You know, my parents tell everyone they meet that their son's a surgeon, as if it's a big accomplishment -- superhero or something. If they could see me now. When I told my mother I wanted to go to medical school, she tried to talk me out of it -- said I didn't have what it takes to be a surgeon, that I'd never make it. So the way I see it, superhero sounds pretty damn good. We're gonna survive this, right? She's still short of breath. Did you get an abg or a chest film? Oh, yes, sir, I did. And what did you see? Wind, Water, Wound, Walking, Wonder drugs -- the five W's -- most of the time, it's Wind -- splinting or pneumonia. Pneumonia's easy to assume, especially if you're too busy to do the tests. What do you think's wrong with 4-b? The fourth "W," "Walking." I think she's a prime candidate for a pulmonary embolus. How would you diagnose? Spiral C.T., V/Q scan, provide O2, dose with heparin, and consult for an IVC filter. Do exactly as she says, then tell your resident that I want you off this case. I'd know you anywhere. You're the spitting image of your mother. Welcome to the game. All right, everybody. It's a beautiful night to save lives. Let's have some fun. I can't think of any one reason why I want to be a surgeon... but I can think of a thousand reasons why I should quit. They make it hard on purpose. There are lives in our hands. There comes a moment when it's more than just a game... And you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away. I could quit, but here's the thing... I love the playing field. - It was good surgery.

- Yeah. We don't have to do that thing where I say something, and then you say something, and then somebody cries, and there's a moment. Yuck. Good. You should get some sleep. You look like crap. I look better than you. That's not possible. That was amazing. You practice on cadavers... you observe... and you think you know what you're gonna feel like, standing over that table, but... that was such a high. I don't know why anybody does drugs. Yeah. Yeah. I should, uh, go do this. You should. I'll see you around. See you around. See you. So... I made it through my first shift. We all did. The other interns are all good people. You'd like them... I think. I don't know -- maybe. I like them. Oh, and I changed my mind. I'm not gonna sell the house. I'm gonna keep it. I'll have to get a couple of roommates, but... it's home, you know? 라벤다 크림, 라벤다 스킨

공부

천연 화장품이 귀찮고, 비용도 비싸게 들 것이라고 생각했다. 캐나다에 있어서 그런지 몰라도, 재료 구하기도 쉬웠고, 가격도 화장품 사서 쓰는 것 보다, 훨씬 절약되었다. 또한 만드는 방법도 사러가는 시간 보다 덜 드는 것 같다. 누구나 쉽게 만들 수 있는 것 같아서 강력 추천한다. 또한 그 동안 본 책을 바탕으로 조금 내 색깔을 섞어서 정리해 보겠다.
피부 타입이 지복합성이고, 캐나다로 옮기면서, 무척 건조해졌다. 더구나, 모공도 넓고, 20대 중반이니 만큼 주름을 생각하지 않을 수 없다. 그래서 선택한 것이 피지에 도움이 된다는 라벤다를 선택하였고, 모공과 주름을 케어하는 호호바 오일을 선택하였다. 자신의 타입에 맞게 오일을 선택하라고 나오는데, 어렵다. 그냥 하나만 파서 계속 가는 거다. 

라벤다 크림
- 재료
라벤드 오일    1 테이블스푼 또는 큰수저
호호바 오일    1 테이블스푼 또는 큰수저
비왁스(밀납)   2g
1. 사용할 그릇 용기들을 모조리 깨끗하게 닦은 후, 알코올로 한 번 더 닦아준다.
2. 물을 끓여서 뜨거운 물을 준비한다.
3. 비왁스를 구하지 못해서 100% 초를 사용하였다. 저울을 이용하여, 2g을 만든다.
4. 비커나 유리 그릇에 호호바 오일과 비왁스를 넣고, 전자렌지에 30초정도 돌려준다. 녹은 상태를 보고, 1분정도 더 섞어준다.
5. 라벤다 오일을 크림 넣을 용기에 데워주기 위해 중탕한다. 끓여놓은 물을 큰 용기에 넣어서, 용기가 뜨겁다 싶을 정도로 만들어 준다. 
6. 5 용기에 4를 넣고 뚜껑을 닫은 후, 그냥 막 1분 정도 흔들어 준다. 섞여졌다 싶으면 그만... 섞여지지 않았다 싶으면 더 흔들어 주면 된다.
Tip.
_ 크림용 용기로 유리로 된 것을 추천한다. 플라스틱도 나쁘지는 않지만, 잘 보관하려면 화학시간에, 용액들 넣어 놓는 것 같은 것들이 천연화장품이 좋다고 한다. 일본책으로 구한 레서피인데, 로션이라고 쓰여있어서, 로션 용기를 사서 넣었는데, 완전 굳어버려서, 다시 녹여서 크림용 용기에 넣었다. 
_ 레서피를 처음에 보고, 이렇게 작은 거 한 번 쓸 용량인가? 싶었는데, 한달 정도 쓰면 되는 것 같다. 크림타입이라서, 생각보다 많이 안 쓰게 된다.
_ 천연 화장품은 스킨, 에센스, 로션의 단계를 거칠 필요가 없다는데, 모든 책의 주장이었다. 한국 사이트을 보면, 많이 에센스 등 분야가 다양한데, 외국 사이트는 그에 반해 심플한 편이다. 복잡한 건 싫이서 그냥 단순한 방법을 따라가기도 했다.
_ 심한 지성이신 분들이 혹시 이 화장품을 만들어 쓰시지 않기를 바랍니다. 생각보다 기름진 면이 있었습니다.

They are looking for modern ways to stop these pirates. They are looking at high technology weapons and items of self-defence. Jake, I like the old style, not modern style. Old style is swords, baseball bats, empty whiskey bottles... that would keep the pirates away. (J: OK, You go and fight and I'll just sit back... okay?) A good sword fight on a ship deck... wow, it's like in the movies.

- windchill: the cooling effect of the wind
- factor: a point, detail, some fact to be considered 요소
- eg. It must have been minus 5 with the wind chill factor .

You'll expect that the temperature will be a higher degrees but you know, with the wind blowing it really brings down the temperature. The windchill factors kind of feel like maybe, oh, maybe about minus five or six against your body. But that's just because of the wind. Don't be fooled by the thermometer, though. Thermometer might tell you it's zero or one but it's a little colder than that.

And of course they talk about not only what you're gonna do, what I'm gonna do, and who's responsible for what. Of course we talk about the contract deadline. Typically a good business contract might be good for several years and always you must be very very careful, read the fine print, otherwise you might get a contract that you don't like, but it'll be too late.

So "at the risk of someone" means that you take the responsibility yourself, no one take the responsibility.

그래서 "at the risk of someone"은 네가 책임을 지고 아무도 책임을 지지 않는다는 뜻이다.

① Global Warming: Heat Could Kill Drought-stressed Trees Fast 
지구 온난화: 열은 가뭄에 시달린 나무를 빨리 죽인다

 

There's a lot of fairly basic stuff that scientists don't really know about trees. 
The warmer temperatures made the trees significantly more vulnerable to drought.

 

과학자들이 나무에 대해서 알지 못하는 아주 기본적인 사실이 많이 있습니다.

Some studies coming out today find that one kind of fat tissue could actually help people lose weight. It's called brown fat. And the studies say it burns off calories quickly unlike ordinary white fat that stores up calories.

1. Voca - I'm against his proposal.
① debate 논의 (하다)
- debates can be angry or friendly, either way. In conversation, to say "talk about", "to have discussion about". eg. We can debate about that. (→ I don't agree with you, I don't think so, we can have a conversation about that.)
② persuade 설득하다 (≒ convince 확신시키다)
- persuade someone to do sth. ↔ dissuade someone from doing sth. (= persuade someone not to)
③ mention 언급하다 (cf. mansion 저택)
④ against 반대하는 (↔ for = to be in favor of)
- eg. For or against? 찬성? 반대? 
⑤ interrupt 끼어들다 
- eg. Do not interrupt while the chair(= chairperson) is speaking.

 

◎ move on 계속 진행하다, disagree, major vote 다수결 (= majority), the floor 발언권, table the motion 안건을 보류하다, move (회의중에) 주장하다/제안하다
- (L) a) make a motion 의견을 제안하다, second the motion (의견에) 동의하다/재청하다 b) in a meeting/voting you might use "Aye or Nay" instead of "Yes or No". c) if you don't decide your opinion, you can't decide your own opinion, you refuse to make any comment → abstain from saying anything

 

♠ During the business meeting I decided to mention a few things that were on my mind. And of course my colleagues and I had a debate about several of those issues. Of course some of my colleagues were against my ideas and I tried to persuade them to follow my ideas and try to agree with me. One guy over in the corner, I think his name was 홍길동, he kept interrupting me time and time again, so during the coffee break I took him outside. It was a good meeting. And What happened? I persuaded him not to mention anything against my debate again. OK, you didn't beat him? I can't say. He won't be back.

In a business meeting, if someone wnats to present an idea or give a suggestion, that idea is usually called "motion"

So someone can make a motion

Now if we agree with the motion, you can say "Yes, yes, yes, I second the motion"

Now in a meeting very often when you want to agree or disagree, yes or no, you might use these words "aye or nay" instead of "yes or no"

If you don't decide that the your opinion ,you can't decide your own opinion, you're fused to make any comment, then it's called "abstain, abstain from saying anything"

① annual report 연례 보고서 (annual salary 연봉)
② deal with 다루다 (to handle, to be involved with sth.)

- figure: a) 그림 (figure skating) b) 사람 (a legendary figure in basketball) c) 숫자

◎ approval 동의/승인, proposal 제안 (eg. marriage proposal), discuss details 세부사항을 협의하다, diversify 다각화하다 (→ to make diverse)

♠ It's that time of the year when everyone in the office is getting ready for the annual report. The fiscal figures that we have to deal with every year on costs and sales are very high. And it could do a result in either some people getting laid off or some people getting promotions. Hopefully the sales figures will be really high. That's what the boss wants to see. He's already made a strategy for us how to improve certain areas of our work force and he's got alternative choices for us. The most important of them are "Work hard!" or "Get fired!".

- eg. Did you hear the news? ABC company is going to go belly up!
